Nespresso capsule dates: 15 versus 12 months and how much to order
Nespresso Korea’s FAQ distinguishes up to 15 months for coffee aroma and characteristics from 12 months for flavored coffees and coffees with additional ingredients. Read the date on your product and its storage conditions; do not add those months to the purchase date. Then compare stock with your weekly use.
- At one capsule per cup, stock divided by weekly use gives weeks of supply.
- This guide does not decide whether capsules with damaged seals, opened capsules or unknown storage histories are safe to drink.
Read the product date, not the purchase date

Start by reading the quality-retention date printed on the product. Arrange the same type of coffee with the nearest date first. “Up to 15 months” does not mean adding 15 months to today's purchase date: you do not know how long the product was stored before purchase.
Nespresso Korea's FAQ describes the period during which a product can retain its inherent quality when stored appropriately for its characteristics. The manufacturer recommends drinking it by the marked date for the best taste and aroma. Here, that guidance helps organize existing stock and the next order.
Why the FAQ distinguishes 15 and 12 months
| Coffee distinguished in the FAQ | Period described |
|---|---|
| Coffee aroma and characteristics preserved by sealing | Up to 15 months |
| Barista Creations flavored coffees and coffees with additional ingredients | 12 months |
The Korean FAQ separately describes flavored coffees and coffees with added ingredients, including Vivida, Ginseng Delight and Active. Do not assume the same period for every capsule. Read the labeling on the product you have; this is not a claim about every country's range or labeling rules.
If you mix different coffees in one storage box, keep the name and printed date together. Separating regular and flavored coffees avoids relying on the memory that “all capsules last 15 months.” This storage arrangement is an editorial suggestion, not a manufacturer requirement.
Read storage conditions with the date
Read the storage instructions too. The FAQ's period is conditional on appropriate storage. It cannot be applied in the same way if the capsule's own seal is damaged, the capsule has been opened or its storage history is unknown.
The FAQ describes possible loss of taste and aroma after the date; this is not a guarantee that every capsule at home is safe regardless of condition. If the label or condition leaves use uncertain, provide Nespresso with the product name, printed date and packaging condition. A stock calculation does not replace that decision about consumption.
Calculate how many weeks your stock lasts
The same stock lasts different lengths of time at different consumption rates. Assuming one capsule per cup, without extra use for guests or other drinks, calculate remaining capsules ÷ capsules used per week.
| Assumed stock and use | Weeks of supply |
|---|---|
| 60 capsules, 5 per week | 12 weeks |
| 60 capsules, 10 per week | 6 weeks |
| 100 capsules, 5 per week | 20 weeks |
Suppose 60 capsules have 8 weeks left until their marked date. At 5 per week, the 12-week supply is a reason to review existing stock before ordering more. At 10 per week, the 6-week supply fits before that date if the same rate continues. This compares consumption arithmetic with a date; it does not predict safety or actual future consumption.
Three checks before the next order
- Check stock and marked dates by type. Do not assign one assumed period to flavored coffees and coffees with added ingredients.
- Use your own recent weekly consumption to calculate supply. If you drink coffee only on weekdays, do not count a cup on every day off too.
- Add the proposed new quantity and compare the total weeks of supply. Do not assume new stock has the same marked date as existing stock when you have not seen its label.
Holidays and changes between home and office work can change consumption. Adjust the order for the coming weeks instead of treating last week's average as a fixed promise. The calculation connects what you already own with how fast you drink it, rather than judging a discount bundle by capsule count alone.
