Jagalchi vs Shindonga Market: different Tuesday closures

These neighbouring markets are separate buildings. Choose the market by its Tuesday closure and the floor where you want to eat or shop.

Busan is a port city in southern Korea. These markets are in the Nampo-dong area. Keep the Korean names 자갈치시장 and 신동아수산물종합시장 when searching a Korean map or asking for directions.

The markets occupy separate, neighbouring buildings. On a Tuesday, choose a market from the closure calendar first, then use its name and street address to find your meal stop.

An unmarked date is not a regular closure under this rule. Individual stalls may differ.

October has no fifth Tuesday. In December 2026, which does, December 29 is also a regular Jagalchi closure.

Some tourism information lists only the first and third Tuesdays. Busan Infrastructure Corporation and Visit Busan’s detailed Jagalchi guide include the fifth Tuesday; this calendar follows that rule.

The corporation also lists two days off for Jagalchi’s first-floor fish market and second-floor sashimi centre: Lunar New Year or Chuseok day and the following day. Do not apply this to surrounding stalls or to Shindonga.

At Shindonga, eating in a first-floor restaurant is different from selecting fish and using a second-floor table-setting restaurant. Compare the fish price, table-setting charge and spicy fish soup separately on the menu. Hoe (회) is Korean-style sliced raw fish; maeuntang (매운탕) is spicy fish soup.

Getting there and accessibility

For Jagalchi, Visit Busan lists Line 1 Nampo Station exit 2 or Jagalchi Station exit 10, with a walk of about six minutes. This is the tourism guide’s estimate, not a measured route time.

Korea Tourism Organization lists accessible parking in the basement, a step-free main entrance, an elevator and an accessible toilet on floor 2. These facilities do not establish an accessible route through every stall.

For a Tuesday sashimi meal, choose the market whose regular closure does not fall on that date. Individual stalls can keep different hours; a particular restaurant booking is separate from the market’s overall hours.

After the market, BIFF Square and Yongdusan Park are further sightseeing options in the Nampo area named in Visit Busan’s market itinerary. They are suggestions, not a measured route or an accessibility guarantee. Keep the Korean map names 비프광장 and 용두산공원.
