Fares and coverage

The paper Metro 24-hour Ticket costs 700, Tokyo Subway Ticket 24-hour costs 1,000 and JR Tokunai Pass costs JPY 870. Official prices were checked on October 17, 2026. Child prices differ as shown below; the calculator uses adult fares.

Tokyo Subway Ticket runs for 24, 48 or 72 hours from first use, costing JPY 1,000, 1,500 or 2,000 per adult. Compare it with the Metro and Toei fares you will use within that period.

Airports and other operators

The Metro 24-hour Ticket covers Metro’s nine lines; Tokyo Subway Ticket covers those nine plus Toei’s four. JR, Keikyu and Keisei sections, including another operator’s section of a through train, require separate fares. The diagram below shows coverage by operator.

JR Tokunai Pass covers local and rapid JR trains inside Tokyo’s 23 wards, using unreserved seating in ordinary cars. Airport limited-express trains and Shinkansen are excluded; calculate Haneda and Narita journeys separately from city fares.

Paper, QR and IC validity

Metro paper and QR tickets and Tokyo Subway Ticket start their stated hours at first use. A same-day Metro paper ticket must first be used on its purchase day; it expires unused after that day. An advance paper ticket must start within six months of purchase.

The Metro IC ticket loads onto PASMO, not Suica, and its 24 hours start at purchase. JR Tokunai is a one-day pass for one designated day. The times below are hypothetical validity examples.

Calculate covered fares

For a 1–6 km Metro basic-fare journey, the adult fare is JPY 180 on paper or 178 by IC. Four paper journeys total 720, exceeding the 700 pass by 20; four IC journeys total 712, exceeding it by 12. Three paper journeys total 540. This example uses the basic distance band; add the fares for your actual journey segments.

Enter actual ordinary fares by operator within the same validity period. Keep airport, other-operator, out-of-area and limited-express supplements in the final field. Calculations use pass price plus uncovered fares; they do not search routes or determine purchase eligibility.

Compare your itinerary

For Metro-only travel, compare individual fares with the JPY 700 Metro 24-hour Ticket. For Metro and Toei, compare three totals: individual fares; 700 for the Metro ticket plus Toei fares; and 1,000 for the 24-hour Tokyo Subway Ticket.

For a JR-focused day, compare eligible JR fares inside the 23 wards with 870. On arrival, list the airport journey separately and total only additional city travel. Stored-value Suica/PASMO payment also differs from buying a flat-price pass.

Purchase and collection

Tokyo Subway Ticket is for overseas visitors and domestic visitors residing outside Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama, Chiba, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Gunma and Yamanashi. Check the paper or QR product and collection method in the official purchase guide.

Same-day Metro paper tickets are sold at Metro station machines; Tokunai at JR reserved-seat machines in its area. The regular Metro/Toei common one-day ticket costs JPY 1,100 for one day. The visitor Tokyo Subway Ticket costs 1,000 for 24 hours from first use.
