Sejong National Arboretum: greenhouse first or outdoor gardens?

Start with the Four Seasons Exhibition Greenhouse in wet or cold weather, then add the Korean Traditional Garden if conditions suit. Ordinary admission and paid guided programs are separate. A temporary entrance applies October 7–December 23, 2026.

  • March–October: last entry 17:00, closing 18:00; November–February: last entry 16:00, closing 17:00.
  • October 2026 closures: 6, 12, 19, 26. Free-admission and night-opening dates differ.
  • Bird-exploration tours on October 24 and 31 need separate online booking; accompanying adults also pay KRW 15,000 each.

The arboretum is in central Sejong, south of Seoul. Search Korean maps for 국립세종수목원 or use the address 세종특별자치시 수목원로 136 (136 Sumogwon-ro).

Plan indoor and outdoor stops around entry deadlines and current access restrictions.

Regular individual admission, checked October 17, 2026, is KRW 5,000 for ages 19+, KRW 4,000 for ages 13–18 and KRW 3,000 for ages 7–12. Tickets allow re-entry on the same day. For a free or discounted ticket, take eligibility documents to the staffed counter.

The general guide describes online mobile tickets, but the current individual and group purchase buttons direct visitors to on-site ticketing. Plan ordinary admission around the counter or kiosk. Education bookings select a date and session separately; a program meeting inside the greenhouse is a guided activity, not the ordinary greenhouse admission product.

The bird-exploration tour illustrates the difference: October 24 or 31, 09:30–11:00, for primary-school families. An accompanying adult is mandatory and also pays KRW 15,000. Book online, then pay by card at least 10 minutes before the start outside the Four Seasons Learning Space inside the greenhouse. Arboretum admission is included as a benefit. The program explicitly involves walking only; ask 044-251-0258 about participation needs.

The arboretum closes Mondays, January 1, the actual Seollal and Chuseok holiday days, and maintenance periods. Seollal is Korean Lunar New Year; Chuseok is the autumn harvest holiday. A public-holiday Monday moves the closure to the following day. Use October’s specific closure dates below. The gray bar shows visiting time after the entry cutoff.

On the listed October night-opening dates, last entry is 21:00 and closing is 21:30. Night access is not offered every day. Daytime food outlets do not automatically extend their hours, and a free-admission date does not waive a paid class fee.

The Han-geul Run restriction on 9 October 2026 applied to that past event. Its notice gives conflicting 08:00 and 09:00 starts; it does not establish a current greenhouse closure. For access now, use the construction and temporary-entrance notice below and on-site signs.

In rain or cold weather, put the Four Seasons Exhibition Greenhouse first. The tropical house recreates rainforest vegetation with a viewing deck; the Mediterranean house presents plants adapted to dry summers and mild winters. Special exhibitions change with the season, so individual flowers and displays are not a permanent promise.

In suitable weather, add the Korean Traditional Garden. Its palace garden draws on Changdeokgung’s Juhamnu pavilion and Buyongjeong, while the separate-villa garden draws on Soswaewon in Damyang. Greenhouse followed by traditional garden is an editorial visit order. Construction and waterways mean it should not be read as a straight-line walking route.

With a stroller or less time outdoors, finish the greenhouse and pause at its café instead. You can enjoy a shorter visit without completing every garden. Walking time depends on your pace and chosen viewing area.

Temporary entrance and accessibility

Garden-shop and centre construction is planned September 21, 2026–February 2027. The temporary entrance applies October 7–December 23, 2026, subject to site changes. The usual parking-to-visitor-centre passage, general information office and garden centre are restricted. The notice map directs arrivals via the parking underpass toward the temporary ticket office. Our area map marks the building, not its currently usable doorway.

Korea Tourism Organization’s accessible-travel listing identifies wheelchair and stroller rental, accessible toilets, Braille and audio guidance. Its route information, updated in 2022, warns of some slopes and three facility-protection bumps. It cannot guarantee that the construction detour is entirely step-free. Contact 044-251-0001 about current access and rental arrangements.

Nursing rooms are in the toilets at the visitor centre 1F, Maple Garden, Four Seasons Exhibition Greenhouse and Healing Garden. Ordinary pets are prohibited; assistance dogs have a statutory exception. If travelling with an assistance dog from overseas, ask the arboretum about applicable documentation before departing.

Buses, refreshments and Central Park

From Osong railway station, take BRT B2 or B1, change at 정부세종청사북측 (Government Complex north side) to bus 221. From Daejeon railway station, take BRT B1 and change at KDI Korea Development Institute (KDI한국개발연구원) to bus 221. The visitor stop is Sejong National Arboretum (국립세종수목원), distinct from the arboretum research-building stop (국립세종수목원(연구동)). The operator also lists 221,274 and 279 for arboretum/Central Park stops. Check direction and current operation on Sejong bus information.

Hanul Lounge, a listed food outlet on visitor-centre 1 F, opens 11:00 and closes 18:00 in March–October or 17:00 in November–February. 아이에떼 커피 (Aiette Coffee) has visitor-centre and greenhouse locations, opening 09:30. emart24 convenience stores are inside the greenhouse and near the Maple and Healing gardens. Café and store seasonal closing is 18:00 or 17:00, not the night-opening deadline. Eat in designated areas.

Sejong Central Park beside the arboretum can be a second outdoor stop. It is a separate park. The area map shows real boundaries and roads; event-day controls may also affect the park surroundings. Follow the current permitted passages.
