The expanded evening schedule runs from 15 September to 30 November 2026. Plan the evening around the permanent galleries on floor 2 of Building 1. The floor-1 lobby is closed for an exhibition change from 13 to 25 October, with reopening planned for 27 October. Buildings 2 and 3 and the education building close at 18:00; Building 1 also closes at 18:00 on Thursday. Follow the on-site guidance for temporary access arrangements.
Which galleries are worth making time for?
For an evening visit to Building 1, floor 2, begin with the exhibition on artisans making objects useful to society. It examines Joseon craftspeople who supplied royal ceremonies and everyday life. Looking at an object’s function and maker as well as its decoration connects palace ritual settings with ordinary utensils.
Other exhibitions on the same floor follow craft through the opening of Korea to foreign trade and the colonial period. They examine craft as an industrial and tourism product, including advertising and trademarks. These displays connect changes in production and sales with the objects on show.
Textile enthusiasts should reserve daytime for Building 3. The floor-2 embroidery exhibition explores wishes for health, happiness, life and death. Floor 3 currently hosts the cooperative exhibition Andong Byeolgung: Layers of Time from 28 April 2026 to 29 August 2027, featuring fibre and paper crafts. Building 3 closes at 18:00, so an evening-only visit misses these galleries.
If visiting several buildings, add Building 2, floor 2, for the exhibition tracing natural materials into craft: stone, clay and wood become metalwork, ceramics and mother-of-pearl lacquerware. For a comparison of materials and techniques, continue from Building 2 to the textile displays; for an embroidery or fibre focus, spend more time in Building 3.
