National Museum of Korea and MMCA Seoul: tickets and reservations
The National Museum’s permanent collection is free; Children’s Museum and VR sessions require separate bookings. MMCA Seoul prices depend on the exhibition, with Wednesday/Saturday evening admission free.
Admission fees
| Visit | Price | Ticket / reservation |
|---|---|---|
| National Museum of Korea | Free | Paid special exhibitions separate |
| Children’s Museum | Free | Online timed booking; no walk-up tickets |
| VR experience | Free | Separate timed booking |
| MMCA Seoul · Do Ho Suh | 8,000 KRW | 2026-08-27–2027-02-09 |
| MMCA Seoul · combined ticket | 10,000 KRW | When at least 3 special exhibitions operate |
Do Ho Suh costs 8,000 KRW for a standard paying visitor. The 10,000 KRW combined ticket applies when at least three special exhibitions operate: the extra 2,000 KRW is worth comparing only if you also want the other included exhibitions. Eligible free or discounted ticket types apply instead. MMCA Seoul’s guide lists visitors aged 24 or younger, 65 or older and undergraduate students among free categories; prepare the relevant proof.
Hours and closures
The National Museum opens 09:30–17:30 on Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri/Sun, and 09:30–21:00 on Wed/Sat. Last entry is 30 minutes before closing: 17:00 or 20:30. Children’s Museum sessions run 09:30–17:20. MMCA Seoul opens 10:00–18:00 on ordinary days and until 21:00 on Wed/Sat, with free evening admission 18:00–21:00. The last Wednesday of each month is also a free day; timed exhibitions still follow their ticket/session conditions.
Both institutions close on January 1, Seollal (Lunar New Year’s Day) and Chuseok (the Korean harvest holiday). MMCA Seoul lists a temporary closure on 2026-12-01. The National Museum closes its permanent galleries and special halls 1/2 on 2026-12-07; its outdoor exhibition remains open. Both normally open on Monday, so a blanket “Monday closed” rule would be wrong.
Children’s Museum, VR and mobile tickets
Individual Children’s Museum bookings
- Bookings open at 00:00 Korean time 14 days before the visit: up to 5 tickets, once per person per day. Count guardians and infants under 36 months.
- Children enter with an adult guardian; adults without children and children without an adult guardian cannot enter. Show a mobile ticket; there is no on-site ticketing.
- Cancel before the session starts if you cannot attend. Failure to enter within 30 minutes of the start automatically cancels the booking.
- A no-show without cancellation restricts visits for 60 days and cancels bookings within that period.
For a 2026-10-31 visit, the 14-day rule gives an opening of 2026-10-17 at 00:00 Korean time. This illustrates the rule; it does not indicate available places or a successful booking.
VR sessions
- Free; bookings open 30 days ahead. Capacity is 6 per session, up to 4 per booking and once per account per day. Register for a museum account and book or cancel before the session starts.
- Failure to enter within 5 minutes of the start automatically cancels the booking. Non-VR Immersive Digital Gallery content does not need a VR reservation.
- For ages 8 and above. Korean guidance says at least 130 cm tall, while English says more than 130 cm. If exactly 130 cm, confirm eligibility at +82-2-2077-9093 before booking.
