Seoul museums with bags and strollers: lockers or coat room?

The National Museum of Korea asks visitors to leave backpacks and school bags in first-floor lockers before entering galleries. MMCA Seoul separates ordinary storage areas from its coat room for bulky items and strollers. Its 450×350×200mm large-bag entry is a baggage restriction, not a locker specification.

  • The two museums have different bag rules.
  • MMCA Seoul lists 5 loan strollers; this is not live availability.
  • Gallery and car-park elevators serve different destinations.

The National Museum of Korea asks visitors to put backpacks and school bags in first-floor lockers to protect displays and prevent accidents. Allow time for storage before your gallery visit rather than assuming you can keep a backpack on throughout.

MMCA Seoul has storage areas on the first floor in front of the main entrance, in front of the art shop and beside the toilets. Another is in Seoul Box on B1, to the left of the elevator. The coat room near the first-floor main entrance handles bulky belongings and stroller storage and loans. Take large luggage to that desk rather than assuming it fits an ordinary locker.

Strollers and infant facilities

At the National Museum of Korea, the stroller loan point is on 1F of the permanent exhibition building, between the entrance and luggage storage. The nursing room is opposite the souvenir shop on the same floor. Changing tables are in all toilets, and elevators connect floors.

MMCA Seoul provides stroller storage and loans at the 1F coat-room desk. Its published equipment count is 5 strollers, not a promise that five will be available when you arrive. Visitors with infants and pregnant visitors can use the priority ticket counter at the 1F information desk.

MMCA's infant rest area has seats, a nursing room, a changing table and a microwave. Infant toilets and changing facilities are also in the accessible toilet diagonally across from the 1F information desk.

Entry and photography rules

MMCA Seoul lists large bags (450×350×200mm), food, umbrellas, tripods and selfie sticks as restricted items. Those bag dimensions are printed in the restriction list. They do not describe a locker's internal dimensions or guarantee that a particular suitcase can be stored. Flash use is restricted inside the galleries.

The National Museum of Korea prohibits food and pets other than guide dogs. It also prohibits photography using flash, tripods, selfie sticks or gimbals, and commercial photography. Belongings are checked at security screening, so leave time for screening and storage as well as viewing.

Addresses and official guidance

The National Museum of Korea (국립중앙박물관) is at 137 Seobinggo-ro, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. Its accessibility page directs visitors toward Ichon Station (이촌역) Exit 2 and estimates roughly 10 minutes on foot. It also identifies elevators for the Museum Passage toward Exits 1 and 2. This is the operator's estimate.

MMCA Seoul (국립현대미술관 서울) is at 30 Samcheong-ro, Jongno-gu, beside Gyeongbokgung Palace. Follow the main-entrance and coat-room guidance for storage, then use the destination-specific elevator guidance with a stroller. Admission prices and timed reservations are covered in the linked guide.
