Gukje and Bupyeong markets: daytime shopping and night food in Busan
Visit Gukje Market by day for household goods and clothes, and Bupyeong Kkangtong Market after 19:30 for night stalls. When combining them, shop at Gukje first. Sunday closures and night-market closing times differ between official listings; check the conditions below.
- Gukje’s listed 09:00–20:00 varies by shop; it is not a night-market timetable.
- Bupyeong night stalls start at 19:30; published closing times differ between 23:30 and midnight.
Goods and hours by market
These neighbouring markets are in Jung-gu, central Busan. Gukje suits daytime shopping for clothes, bags, bedding, kitchenware and tools. Bupyeong Kkangtong combines daytime imported goods, general merchandise and food shops with evening food carts. Kkangtong means tin can, reflecting its history of imported canned goods.

Gukje tourism information lists 09:00–20:00. Jung-gu lists Bupyeong daytime shops at 09:00–20:00 and night stalls separately at 19:30–24:00. Individual shops vary. Korea Tourism Organization also lists Bupyeong daytime hours as 08:00–20:00; do not expect every shop to be open early. If visiting both, put daytime shopping before evening carts. The 19:30 opening does not mean all Gukje shops reopen then.

Sundays and late arrivals
For Gukje Sundays, Visit Busan lists every Sunday closed, whereas the district’s specific market page and KTO’s food-street page list the first and third Sundays. If Sunday shopping matters, check your date and chosen shops with Gukje information at +82-51-245-7389. Bupyeong’s year-round night-market listing does not establish Gukje’s Sunday opening.
Visit Busan and Jung-gu list Bupyeong night closing at midnight; KTO lists 23:30. For a choice of food stalls, plan to arrive after 19:30 and before 23:30. This does not guarantee every cart serves until the final minute. Visit Busan’s night-market feature also mentions an exception for traditional holidays: check holiday visits with the Bupyeong merchants’ association, +82-51-243-1128.

Visit Busan gives Line 1 Jagalchi exit 7 for Gukje, about seven minutes on foot, and exit 3 for Bupyeong, about nine minutes. Its separate night-market feature estimates ten minutes for Bupyeong; crowds can add time. Addresses: Gukje, 32 Junggu-ro; Bupyeong, 48 Bupyeong 1-gil. These exit recommendations do not establish lifts or step-free access. Drivers can use nearby paid parking; historical market parking capacities do not indicate current vacancies or tariffs.
Food and nearby stops
Gukje Food Street is listed at 36 Junggu-ro. Bibim dangmyeon is cooked glass noodles mixed with vegetables and spicy seasoning; milmyeon is Busan-style wheat noodles. Dwaeji gukbap pairs pork broth and meat with rice, served together or alongside. At Bupyeong, look for fish cakes and yubu pockets—fried tofu pouches filled with ingredients such as glass noodles and served in broth. Daytime shops and night carts need not share menus. Check the displayed price, portion and quantity before paying.
Nearby BIFF Square is a separate stop for ssiat hotteok, sweet pancakes with sugar and seeds such as sunflower and pumpkin, often peanuts too. Ask about ingredients if avoiding nuts. Jagalchi to the south is another market suited to seafood meals. Add a stop according to location and the meal you want; do not treat these foods as one night-market menu or assign them one common price.
