Gongju or Buyeo in one day: choose a city or connect them by bus
Choose Gongju for fortress walls, royal tombs and their excavated treasures; choose Buyeo for woodland ruins and the Baekje incense burner gallery. The published intercity bus segment takes 50 minutes and costs KRW 7,000 each way.
- Buyeo Museum’s permanent galleries and lobby are under renovation until December 14, provisionally; the incense burner gallery and Children’s Museum remain open.
- Gongju fortress and tombs stop admission at 17:30 in October and 16:30 from November.
Sights and admission costs
Gongju and Buyeo are former capitals of Baekje, an ancient Korean kingdom, in Chungcheongnam-do. Gongju pairs fortress walls and royal tombs with the objects excavated there. Buyeo pairs a woodland fortress with the dedicated gallery for the national treasure, the Baekje gilt-bronze incense burner. For a first visit without a car, choosing two or three places in one city reduces transfers.
| Place | Individual adult |
|---|---|
| Gongsanseong Fortress | 3,000 KRW |
| Royal Tombs of King Muryeong | 3,000 KRW |
| Gongju National Museum | 0 KRW |
| Busosanseong Fortress | 2,000 KRW |
| Buyeo National Museum | 0 KRW |
The comparison uses undiscounted individual adult admission. Gongju’s fortress and tombs cost KRW 3,000 each, or 6,000 together. The city also lists a 6,000 combined ticket including Seokjang-ri Museum: that is a three-site product, not an additional saving for just two sites. Busosanseong and the free Buyeo Museum total 2,000. Meals and local transport are extra.

Gongju fortress, tombs and museum
Gongsanseong overlooks the Geum River at 280 Ungjin-ro, Gongju. Seeing the tombs and museum together connects an archaeological place with its excavated objects. The dedicated city pages give 09:00–18:00 in March–October and 09:00–17:00 in November–February, with admission ending 30 minutes earlier; they close on New Year’s Day and the actual Seollal and Chuseok holidays. A generic tombs page lists only 09:00–18:00; use the seasonal page for winter planning.
Gongju National Museum opens 09:00–18:00, with free permanent admission. It closes Mondays, January 1 and the actual Seollal and Chuseok days; when Monday is a public holiday, closure moves to the first weekday after that holiday. Saturday evening opening is temporarily suspended. The city identifies buses 101/125 from Gongju Composite Terminal for the fortress and the Gongju Culture and Arts Center stop for the tombs. This identifies access, not a guaranteed continuous connection to every stop.

Buyeo Museum: free timed tickets
Busosanseong is a woodland hill fortress at 15 Buso-ro, Buyeo-eup; do not assume a flat, short accessible route. Buyeo National Museum is at 5 Geumseong-ro. From July 28 to December 14, 2026, provisionally, the permanent galleries and lobby are being rebuilt, while the incense burner gallery and Children’s Museum remain open. The whole museum is not closed. Normal hours are 09:00–18:00, last admission 17:30; Monday and holiday closure rules follow the museum notice.
Free admission still requires a same-day timed QR ticket. Go first to the kiosk in Sabi Maru performance hall; select the gallery, session and party size, then take the ticket to the gallery. Tickets are not issued at the gallery entrance. All 25 daily sessions open for allocation at 09:00, first come first served. Enter within 10 minutes after the session begins. Advance booking or arriving late does not secure your preferred session.
- Get tickets at Sabi Maru

Buses in both directions
The city’s regional bus connects Cheongju Airport, Osong Station, Gongju Composite Terminal and Buyeo Intercity Terminal. Gongju boarding information specifies platform 1. Arrival times below are published estimates subject to traffic. The city-to-city segment is 7,000 each way; a return costs 14,000. With Gongju’s two paid sites and Busosanseong, the adult total is 22,000 before meals or local transport. Four daily trips describe this regional route, not every ordinary intercity service.

The 11:10 Gongju departure arrives in Buyeo at 12:00, but a museum visit then depends on available timed tickets. This is not a promise that all Gongju sights fit into the morning. For returning from Buyeo, the service after 13:00 is 19:00: choose the return before planning the afternoon. Osong Station and Gongju Composite Terminal are separate places; this bus does not call at Gongju railway station.
Actual locations in each city
Map numbers are OSM facility centres or archaeological reference points, not entrances, bus platforms or current pedestrian access. Lines are recorded roads. Gongju: 1 terminal, 2 fortress, 3 King Muryeong’s tomb, 4 national museum. Buyeo: 1 terminal, 2 national museum, 3 Sabi Maru ticket hall, 4 Jeongnimsaji temple site. These maps show location relationships within each city, not a timed walking itinerary.

Food and an extra stop
The amended Bammashil notice schedules Fridays/Saturdays 17:00–22:00 from 4 September to 17 October 2026, excluding 25–26 September and adding Sundays 6 September and 4 October. The notice’s last scheduled date was 17 October 2026. The venue is Sanseong Market Cultural Park, 32 Pungmulgeori-gil. For visits from 18 October onward, do not plan this night market as an ongoing meal stop; check ordinary market shops separately.
Buyeo’s yeonipbap is sticky rice steamed in a lotus leaf, often with chestnuts and jujubes. The older KTO food article supports culinary background only; its old restaurant details, fares and festival dates are not current advice. Jeongnimsaji is an optional extra archaeological stop; its September 7–27 media-art event has ended.
