Toyoko Inn Japan: ECO cleaning, towels and room changes
In Japan, Toyoko Inn provides full cleaning once every 3 days and ECO cleaning on other days. Put out the no-cleaning sign by 10:00 to decline entry on an ECO day; request full cleaning by 22:00 the previous evening. Long-stay plans require a room change every 7 days.
- ECO involves staff entry but excludes linen changes and bathroom cleaning.
- Full cleaning is mandatory every 3 days; dog-friendly rooms are cleaned daily.
- The 10:00 sign and previous-evening 22:00 request are different actions.
- Japan's long-stay plans ask guests to change rooms every 7 days.
ECO cleaning at Toyoko Inn in Japan is not a no-entry service. Staff enter to replace towels, collect rubbish and tidy the bed. Check the linen and bathroom cleaning schedule separately from staff entry and the room changes that apply to longer stays.
What ECO cleaning includes
| Service | ECO cleaning | Full cleaning |
|---|---|---|
| Staff enter | Yes | Yes |
| Towels and rubbish | Included | Part of full cleaning |
| Bed tidying | Included | Part of full cleaning |
| Sheets and pillowcases | Not changed | Changed |
| Bathroom cleaning | Not included | Included |
These terms were introduced at Japanese hotels on June 3, 2025. Full cleaning is mandatory once every 3 days; simpler ECO cleaning applies on other days. Dog-friendly rooms receive full cleaning every day.
Fresh towels do not mean fresh sheets on every visit. If daily linen changes or bathroom cleaning matter to you, distinguish that service from the ECO tasks before choosing the booking.
The 10:00 sign and 22:00 request
- When you need linen and bathroom cleaning on an ECO day: request full cleaning at reception by 22:00 the previous evening. It includes sheet and pillowcase changes and bathroom cleaning.
- When you do not want staff to enter on an ECO day: hang the do-not-clean card on the corridor side of the room door by 10:00 that morning. Towels are left on the door handle; distinguish this doorstep service from in-room rubbish collection and bed tidying.
The guest guide gives 15:00 as the end of room cleaning. This differs from the previous-evening 22:00 request deadline and the same-morning 10:00 sign.
Weekly, Monthly and room changes
| Plan | Eligible stay |
|---|---|
| Weekly | 7–29 nights |
| Monthly | 30–31 nights |
Use Weekly or Monthly to book 8 or more nights at once. Other plans allow up to 7 nights per booking; some hotels accept bookings only by phone.
Long-stay plans also use full cleaning every 3 days and staff-entry ECO service on the other days. The plan asks guests to change rooms every 7 days; the general guide describes a change from the 8th night for thorough cleaning. Arrange the move date with reception rather than assuming one room is guaranteed for the whole stay.
A partial cancellation that reduces Weekly below 7 nights or Monthly below 30 nights switches the booking to the ordinary rate. The room-move condition and the rate condition are separate.
Korean hotels have separate terms
A notice displayed in Korean does not automatically apply to Korea. The ECO announcement explicitly applies to Japanese hotels and says Korea's introduction date will be announced separately.
The separate Korean Weekly page lists 7–29 nights, a discount of up to 15%, payment at the hotel and a room change every 7 days. It explicitly says its terms differ from Japan. For a Korean booking, use the participating-hotel list on that page rather than applying this article's Japanese cleaning table.
